How Does Oral Conscious Sedation (Sleep Dentistry) Work?
Dental patients interested in sedation dentistry will be prescribed a pill (Halcion) which is to be taken one hour prior to the scheduled dental office appointment. It is very important that you bring along a family member or friend to drive you to, and from your dental appointment. When you arrive at Dr. Leslie's dental practice, you will still be awake while starting to feel drowsy and very relaxed.
Upon your arrival at our dental office for your appointment, we will immediately escort you to the dental treatment area and seat you in your dental chair. You will be placed on a monitor so that we can watch your vital signs during the entire procedure.
If you would like to listen to some relaxing, comforting music, a CD player and headset, is available to you. Dark glasses will be used to keep the bright lights out of your eyes during your treatment, as well as for your protection. If you start to feel cold, we will cover you with a warm blanket. To ensure your comfort, a small pillow is available for the small of your back. It is our wish that you are fully relaxed and at ease before, during and after your dental procedure.
There is no analgesic or pain relieving qualities provided by this oral sedative. Local anesthetics will be used to prevent pain. Because you are so tranquil, and because of the use of painless injection techniques, you probably will not even remember when you teeth were actually being "numbed".
When your dental treatment is complete, your friend or family member will drive you home, where you can climb straight into bed for a soothing, relaxing nap.
Once you are fully awake, you will feel comfortable, relaxed and best of all stress free. You will probably remember very little about your wonderful, relaxing, sedation dental experience.
For no reason should you operate a motor vehicle for 24 hours after receiving Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry.
